Historic table settings reimagined with Tasmanian materials and motifs, the sophisticated dining attire that accompanies such dinner spectacles and modernist lighting designs illuminating grains of Tasmanian timbers like a decadent, layered cake.

On the 7th of March, 1912, a large wooden ship marked ‘Fram’ sailed into the Derwent River, carrying some very big news – news which was to be kept secret.

In spring 1850, an exciting new kind of ad appeared in the local newspaper – ice creams for sale. They were the first ice creams in Tasmania. And they were sold right here.

Here in May 1867 something remarkable opened at the hotel, drawing a very large, and very curious, crowd.

It was a crisp winter’s day in 1887 when Amy Sherwin arrived home in Hobart. She was the first Australian singer to make it overseas. Crowds had gathered an hour before her arrival, filling the streets from Town Hall to Hadley’s with a sea of billowing scarves and feathered hats.

An adventurous American couple – Mr. and Mrs. Glidden – arrived in Hobart from New Zealand, parking outside Hadley’s to a bustling crowd.

![The Curious Case of Lord Lymington]()
In autumn 1892, a gentleman checked in with his wife. He jumped on the hotel’s grand piano, dazzling and charming guests. His wildly extravagant behaviour drew crowds and he proudly declared himself to be Lord Lymington.

In 1839, the hotel’s cook was woken by a dog barking wildly. As he walked over to shush the dog, he heard a voice from the fireplace calling ‘Let me out!’ With the fireplace strongly ablaze, the cook was baffled. “I’m in the chimney a grilling!” came the nervous voice again.
